I've had both the 1st and 2nd gen TRD exhausts. The 2nd gen has impeccable quality and I like the oval canister because it has more ground clearance. The sound, while not as loud as the 1st gen, is just right in my opinion. For BPU I don't think you need to worry about airflow capacity, etc. I doubt you will find any tangible difference in HP between all the available aftermarket exhausts.

Anybody out there, in greater Los Angeles area, that has a 2nd gen TRD? Would like to hear from you and possibly hook up to "kick the tires..."

Thx,

Jay :blue:
XCELR8,

Would you happen to know, sound-wise, how do the 2nd gen TRD and GReddy PE compare?

Thx,

Jay :blue:
No, sorry I do not know how the 2 exhausts compare.
I replaced my Greddy PE for a 2nd gen TRD. The PE was a little on the quite side and I like the stock looking appearance of the TRD. Also the TRD has a straighter pipe design more aggressive tone and is stainless steel. I also didn't like the big canister, but never had clearance problems with the PE. Last thing is the exhaust tip of the TRD angles to the left but its pretty flush with the rest of the bumper, while the PE extends over the bumper.

Joe,

Thx for your input. Could you possibly describe its sound @:
1. idle 2. cruising, RPM of around 3K 3. when you open up

Would you know if the pipe is around 3" (like the PE)?

Are you running with a DP? cat?

Is the 2nd gen TRD comparable in performance to the PE?

Thx,

Jay :blue:

XCELR8,

Awesome pics. Thanx a million.

It seems that this 2nd gen TRD is the exhaust that I'll end up getting.
Could you please describe the various sounds per my post to Joe.

I'd sure want to hear one for myself and I really hope that I can locate some one in greater LA area.

Thx,

Jay :blue:
Thx for your input. Could you possibly describe its sound @:
1. idle:

"Low rumble after breaking it in. Not as loud as my 1st gen TRD, but just right."

2. cruising RPM of around 3K:

"About as quiet as stock."

3. when you open up:

"As expected, it makes a nice loud rumblng sound. I don't think it is as loud as some of the acknowledged "louder" pipes, but again just right for me. Not as loud as my 1st gen TRD."

Is the 2nd gen TRD comparable in performance to the PE?

"I think you'll find most of the aftermarket pipes are pretty comparable in performance. Choose one, you can't go wrong."

XCELR8,

Thanks, man.
Do you have a DP? Cat?
If you do, which one?
Pipe diameter (3", 4")?

DP/cat combo affect sound significantly, so I hear, so I'd like to know your setup.
I don't know if 2nd gen TRD is not popular in SoCal or whether owners of those are too ashamed to admit they have it--so far, all my calls to somebody in my area, apparently fell on deaf ears.
Or, maybe they're just too busy this long weekend having fun...

Thx again,

Jay

G
get a TRD exhaust and you wont regret for sure, TRD parts is unique and high quality:)
I have the RMM downpipe which obviously has no cat. As far as I know all of the available downpipes are the same size (3"). The TRD exhaust is probably not as popular because of the cost and some want the most agressive sound possible.
G
real fast car doesnt need a big loud exhaust:rolleyes:
XCELR8,

"...The TRD exhaust is probably not as popular because of the cost..."

I believe that the TRD cost as 'little' as the GReddy PE, which, to my knowledge, is popular, even though it's quiet. Not sure that cost is a real factor. Sound..., well, that's a whole different issue...

I'll repeat my desparate call: anybody out there, in greater Los Angeles area with a 2nd gen TRD, I'd like to hear from you.

Thanks for everybody's input so far. Appreciate it.

I have a RMM downpipe (obvisouly no cat).

1. @idle TRD has a nice deep throaty sound while the PE was as quite as stock.

2. @ 3k (I have a 6speed) driving normal, both were just a little bit louder than stock. I mean you can tell you have an aftermarket exhaust but nothing annoyingly loud. If you have the windows up and radio on, you won't be able to here it in the cabin.

3 @WOT TRD has a very very nice deep RUMBLE, loud yet tolerabel and can be heard with the windows up and music blasting. Again with the thoarty sound. (sorry it's the best way to describe the sound as if the exhaust had s sore throat)
while the PE had not as loud and not as deep Rumble.

Performance wise I don't think you will disappointed with either one. I think it's just a matter of perference. I believe they both cost around the same amount of $$, I was perfectly happy with the PE and the change was more just a cosmetic thing. I think the general consesus with the forums and the mkiv list is you can't go wrong with any aftermarket exhaust. Again, it's just a matter or preference.
