i have a pertty much stock 1jz except for a blow off valve and my friend has a evo 9 (408 at the crank, about 330 to the wheels if i remember correctly). Well we are going down the high way (coming back from the shooting range and he guns it i was behind him in 4th at about 3800 rpm's ,dont know mph, need speedo cable , i gunned it and stayed behind him most of the way he just inched away from me slowly, i expected it to just jeave me hanging in the dust but i was happy to keep up with him. We did that a few of times and it was the same result most of the time. Are the 1jz that fast or is it his driving?

well 330 to the wheel on an evo 9 is just the simple basic bolt-ons... (turboback, intake, and alil flash will get you that!) still not made for highway pulls so ur 1jz (although slower) may seem to semi keep up.

now if u guys started from a dig or even 1st gear roll, by the time ur in 3rd gear it would be a straight out rape.
