Is the odometer driven off of the speedometer cable?

Heres my problem, every time i fill up gas i reset my trip meter thing just to kind watch my gas mileage and the last 2 times i filled up gas i was blown away by how many miles i got per tank 288 and 291. I didnt think that could be possible and noticed that my trip meter seems like its moving wayyy faster then it should?? At 35 mph it goes about a 1/10 of a mile in a little over a second. BUT at the same time my speedo doesnt seem to be too off, no where near as much as my odometer.

wtf? is it my cluster or something?

oh and i always fill up around 1/4 tank. Both times were above 1/4 and normal mileage is around 200-220

Did you change your wheel or tire size recently?

Yeah i got 17'' gram lights on but i put those on like almost a year ago or something and havent taken them off since.

hopefully sometime this week my friend is gonna let me try putting in one of his spare clusters to see if its that. This hings making me rack up miles!! every time my trip meter flips a miles my odometer does too!!
