I seem to have developed an oil leak recently, there are a few drops of oil under the car, sometimes small scattered puddles. I'm wondering if overfilling the oil can cause oil to leak out? the oil drops are scattered but usually they are underneath the center of the engine with a tendency to be closer to the turbo side. there is nothing coming out from underneath the valve covers either. could possibly be a leaky oil pan gasket... i am at college now and wont be going home for a few weeks, so i would feel better if there was some way to stop the oil leak or slow it down until i can get home and take the car to my trusty mechanic. someone told me i could put an additive in my oil that might help stop the leak temporarily? is this safe to use and does it work at all? any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

thicker oil is a temp job, it will be harder for it to get through the " leak " spots but depends on how big the leaks are. I'm not sure of any other way.
