Can anyone tell why that wreck happened? He was WAY past the apex, almost to the exit point of the turn. Maybe the car was gone before the turn and the camera view didn't show it.
The rear end kicked out, he tried to correct, but it was no use.

He hit and broke the guardrail @ 100mph. After a mild concussion, 6 seizures, and $15,000 in out-of-pocket-no-insurance-coverage damage to the C5, the man is ok.

He was chasing an S2000, by the way. Pretty impressive showing from the 4 cylinder.

Did that Guilly guy raced on Sunday at Firebird?? If not, I might have to go back to AZ and take care of business. :O
Guilly??? wa-la??

You mean Sunday? No :( got up at 7:15 AM ready to race but the weather looked crappy :( So I didn't race. It didn't rain all day;(

The one thing that was kind of "good" is that there weren't hardly any high end cars there Sunday, probably because of the weather...

There are a couple of skidmarks in that corner that you can see during playback, must be a popular section of the track.

Wow, interesting... did you know him?
Dennis,

I know there was a detailed write up of the whole incident by the guy driving that C5 on the Corvette Forum. That may be where Marcus got the information.

It was pretty late by the time he started to try to correct. I wonder if something broke on the car. It came around in a hurry, and didn't look like he had much warning.

Given equal drivers, the S2000 should have been well behind the C5 by then. I've got friends who owned a C5 and a S2000 that I always compared my lap times to. An S2000 just isn't that fast on a racetrack compared to cars like Supras and C5s. The guy who owned the S2000 sold it and got a 97 M3, and he's considerably faster in it if that gives you any idea of how fast they are.

If you look, you can see what appears to be sand in the road. There are even previous tire tracks in the sand. I know from personal experience that if you hit a patch of sand, coming out of a turn, going fast... well bad things happen.

Also, it looked like the s2000 guy was taking every corner at like 30, there were opportunities to pass the s2000 but the c5 driver seemed more concerned about hitting the car than anything else. He was probabaly trying to predict the s2000's next move instead of focusing on the road and that's why he missed the path of dirt or whatever was on the ground.

Everyone has a bad day, usually that bad day doesn't include rolling your car, but everyone does have bad days.
