For the ones that have a rebuild block running OEM pistons. My goals are max 900 rwhp.

I have measured the top ring gap to be 0.031 instead of the 0.024" most people recommend.

What are the top ring gap that you guys are running?

Feel free to PM me the info if you don't like to post your data.

I set mine closer to the .024 and haven't had any problems. I believe the max ring end gap for #1 is .039 so you should be fine. What is your #2 gap at?

Are you on a new shortblock? Did you file it to that? Where did you take your reading from? I think 4" from deck is std measurment.

Guys, I have the shortblock that came with the car. 2 cylinders had 40% leak, so I decided to re-hone the block and use new stock pistons and stock piston rings.

Mike, I didn't file the rings. They readings are from where you say i.e. 4 " inside the deck.
You are also correct, that max gap per the shop manual is 0.039".

I did not take measurements from the 2nd ring though

I used Gapless Top rings from Total Seal. I didn't want any excessive blowby while breaking in the engine. Worth every penny.

ring gap relies on application as well. I think your build will lack reliability with oem pistons and a 900 rwhp goal. spend the buck and get some cp's
