Well I read through all the ps problem thread and cant get an anwer. So hoping you guys can help me out. My steering is super stiff, taking alot of force to turn. The fluid is full, but after driving it sorta bubbles up a bit.

1. Is it safe to drive the car in this condition or will that cause more damage? I want to be able to drive to a shop at least, it is too hard to steer to want to drive anywhere else.

2. Is the a way to see if the power steering pump is dead, or if ill need a new rack? Any method to test it out?

Please help guys, im stuck and out of ideas.

Not yet, it got too dark where im at. Im going to jack up the front, turn wheel left to right to see if that does anything. But i figured its much worst just bc how super stiff it is, new ps pump is $290, so i want to know if theres a way to test it.

In all honesty, I drove from Towson, MD to Reading, PA which is exatly 100 miles with no fluid in the tank or the whole system for that matter. The return hose came off the cooler and I just said to hell with it and drove.
Now when I got home, I fixed the hose, poured fluid into the tank to fill the system. started the car kept turning the wheel left and right lock to lock until all pump noise was gone. Power steering works again no problem.

So to get yours to work again, turn the wheel left to right a number of times lock to lock to bleed the system. This should resolve your issues.

I'm guessing you're not getting any noise out of the system.... If not you can try removing the high pressure line and the fitting behind it and your pressure relief valve is probably stuck in there. I had the same problem with my p/s pump. it's an easy fix. just clean it up and put it back together and it might just start working like mine did. If not you should be able to get away with just replacing the pump, it should not cause any damage by driving it like that. I drove mine for a couple months like that with no issues.
