I recently had my power steering resevoir chrome plated. The inside was full of shiznit and I never washed it out before installing it. My entire PS system was contaminated with metal shavings of the finest variety. I flushed the entire system with a gallon of PS fluid and installed a new pump. The PS worked after the swap but gave out after just 5 minutes. So now I have a newly installed PS pump, a flushed system and PS that doesnt work. I was told that the rwack has a screen filter in it and if its clogged it will burn out the pump.

Did I kill my new PS pump?

Is the Rack and Pinion dead?

Does Toyota offer a Rack and Pinion Rebuild kit and can a do-it-yourselfer install the rebuild kit?

yes they do, I don't remember the cost of the rebuild kit but it was spare change. I took my rack to a shop that did it all for $70.
