Trying to get some questions answered for a friend of with 94 auto. We are trying to figure out the boost curve of this turbo and its capabilities. The turbo doesnt get spooled up till right at 5000 rpm's. When the boost comes in, its all at one time, you hardly feel any low are mid boost coming up, almost like he hit the N2O button. Basically I am just wondering if these are the natural characteristics of this turbo or is something not going right else where in the car. He has every bolt on but no bottom end work. He's running a Profec B boost controller, HKS AFR, stock ECU and injectors. Thanks in advance for the help.

My Gt61 spools fully by 4k in 4th gear. Its hard to compare that with an auto though. In 1st gear I never really looked but I would still think its at full boost before 5k. The small turbos do seem to hit quickly though whenever then start it takes less time for them to get to full boil. You should see from a roll at 60 mph when full boost comes at what rpm in a higher gear.
Somthing is wrong
Yeah, that turbo should be spooling at around 3500rpm. The power will come on quick though because almost right after the boost hits you will see full boost.

How is the wastegate hoses hooked up? i had the phr street kit i could get all the boost i wanted by 4k. That turbo was a 62mm with a .70 a/r on-center turbo with the turbonetic cast manifold so i don't know how that compares to the setup your friend has. I live in New Orleans so if he needs some help hit me up. Sounds like to me the pressure sources are way off for the wastegate and the boost controller.

Good luck,
Sid
the car makes about 5psi from 3400 to 4500 then all at once from 4500 to 4800 it goes from 5-7 to 18psi. The main problem with this is that when the car shifts the wide gearing of the auto drops the rpms to 3900 and the car loses its boost until 4500 again. Its a really werd problem. Any more suggestions would be appreciated. Also how much lag does the stock mass air cause?
Is the car tuned to the right a/f? It kinda sounds like he is running real rich.
sounds like a bad torque converter.....
found a exhuast leak at the manifold to wastegate extension. wasn't a real bad leak but im sure it caused some lag.

What about the traction control, should we pull the fuse instead of just pushing the button? could this be the cause of the loss of boost between shifts even though the buttons turned off?
