Pumps are the same. Only difference is the VVTI solenoid thingy (IDK name) attached to the pump body. Once you remove that, it’s essentially a non-VVTI pump now. Did they give you a technical explanation other than, “Because it’s VVTI”?

I had three JZ pumps next to each other (2J VVTI, 2J non-VVTI, and 1JZ non-VVTI), and I disassembled them on the bench. All three had the same part number in their cast bodies, and I was able to interchange all parts & internals.

I read that the solenoid, IIRC, aids in progressive assist of steering. So if you’re leaking while sitting overnight when there’s no assist happening, then I would assume either the seal is: faulty, not seated properly, or you damaged it on install.

My answer when I asked difference from their end was this.
The reason we recommend it is the VVTI has variable pressure and causes all sorts of issues. So trying to head that off before you run into another issue. My other thought is the pump you got with the engine being aftermarket or reman of sorts and that is why the hole is off a bit.
I took it apart checked O-ring and reassembled. It just seems might need a bigger O-ring (thickness wise) so going to try that to fix leak. But I just wanted to find out if the vvti really had different pressure. I don't want to damage anything on their kit or have their kit not work properly if I really need a non vvti pump. Would just hate to buy one if I don't need it though. This one is brand new. Also mine doesn't look like I have a solenoid on it. Just a plane pump I ordered for a stock is300. Thank you for your information.
All IS300s are VVTI. Would be curious to see a pic of your pump. The solenoid is built onto the pump, and can be removed when you take it apart…then you’d have a non-VVTI pump.
