Other than getting a set of racing tires, the most important thing you can do is to get a good alignment. -1.5 degrees of camber up front and -1 degree in the rear is a good compromise between performance and tire wear if you run 0 toe or a minimal amount of toe in. Tire pressures should probably be in the 35-40 psi range. Leave the auto in 2, and get somebody experienced to ride with you to give you some tips or ride with them if possible. Remember that your goal is to exit corners fast rather than going into them really fast. 98% of people try to go into corners too fast at first, which isn't the way to go fast. If you're still braking hard when you turn in or can't get to the apex (inside edge) of the corner you're going in too fast. Good luck and have fun.
