I've been building a 2JZ for a project recently. I'm in the process of building the motor. Going with 9:1, 272 cams, built head, and minor head porting. I was originally deadset on a Garrett G35-1050, as I wanted the newest and best, but they are ungodly expensive. On top of that, they only currently have a V-Band inlet, so I would need to buy a new manifold or modify my current one. All in, a 67mm GTW3884R would run me about $1600, while a G35-1050 would run anywhere from $3000 - 4000. I started comparing the two because of this, and the G35-1050 doesn't really seem to be worth the performance.

I've attached the flowcharts below, and while the G35-1050 is definitely improved, I can't seem to justify the 2.5x price. I found a video by MotiveVideo of an RB26 that had a GTW3884R. It maxed out on 30psi and made around 830whp. When he moved to the G35-1050, it made 850whp on 30psi and maxed out at 880whp on 34psi. Obviously the G35 comes on a bit quicker, but I just wonder if it's worth.

Does anyone have experience with either the GTW3884R or G35-1050 on a 2JZ? More curious in how the car feels to drive than dyno numbers.

Interesting..I've been looking at the GTX3584RS to switch out my JB PTE6766H setup. This GTW3884R looks as good option as well for my 3.4 stroker.

The new G-series are alot to swallow price wise not to mention the exhaust housing restrictions. I believe ATP turbo was offering T4 housings with the new G35s.

If it were me I would buy the GTW3884R and not think twice. 3-4k on a turbo is an insane price.

I was originally going to go with the GTX3584RS, but then I saw the new G Series at SEMA and wanted to go with it, as it was only a few hundred more. I assumed the GTW turbos were far worse, given the price difference, but when I started looking at the flowcharts the GTW3884R just makes the most sense.

3584 RS Is what i bought. I wanted reliability and spool things you often don't say with PT. You'll get spool but never really had reliability from them. BW there no spool, period. I don't care what turbo they all seem lazy from every dyno I've seen. My buddy made 925WHP with a 3.0 and 10.0:1 with a crazy powerband at something like 30 or 34 psi.

That's what I've seen. Precision seems to be the best turbo when lag isn't an issue (drag racing), but this car is going to be a daily. BW isn't even on my mind. Was your buddy running the G35 1050?
