This question is directed to those who are already NA-T

What problems have you guys encountered by going NA-T on a stock 2JZ-GE (bottom end, head). Any stories of people blowing their motors? rings? any smaller problems? Speak up, I'd like to know :)

Jay is just jealous he cant have a car as cool as mine.

Ok from the top, headgasket blew *or atleast what I believe happened* therefore I broke down the motor to replace the headgasket. Well being the innovative person I am I decided HEY lets go turbo. Keep in mind this was approximately 1 1/2 years ago. Anyway I broke down the car and sent the head to the machine shop to check for warpage, hey a 3 angle valve job and also to redo my valve stem seals. The head was ok and I got fresh seals now too. The coming year and a half consisted of my waiting sometimes 3-4 months for specific parts to get to me as they were the next "step" to allowing me to build the car a bit further. In the end I have learned that stacking two TT headgaskets does not work.....FOR ME, that a Greddy 2mm Headgasket fits on the car VERY tightly and also doesnt seem to want to keep coolant out of my cylinders. When wiring in injectors make sure that you keep in mind the BLACK wire is not the power wire and the RED wires are now the ground. Transmission fill bolts WILL strip out on you if you use shitty ass Craftsman tools, who have one function as a tool and that is to fit on a bolt and take it off but apparently craftsman cant even do that right. Upon taking the bolt off you will need a Torch that uses Oxygen as a fuel as you will have to get the bolt RED hot and use a trusty pair of vise grips to take it off. The rear bumpers on your hatch use a blue adhesive they call blue locite I believe...well its a pain in the ass too, because one you TRY to get them out you are left with a stripped out screw and some FUBAR weather stripping around where you trying turning the damn screw.... AGAIN a small pair of vise grips put on VERY tight did the trick. If the car has over 80000 miles on it the bolts arent coming off easy no matter where its at. WHEN YOU WIRE DONT DO IT AT 3 OCLOCK IN THE MORNING. This will result in your friends coming over discovering that you are retarded and making jokes about how you wire things for years to come. So if you can just avoid wiring at sleepy time hours. Make sure timing lines up correctly and also once you have learned EVERY little thing there is to learn about the car. Well the one thing you know nothing about....it will break. You will then have to learn WHY it broke WHAT it does and HOW to fix it. This will in turn cost you any hopes of having a positive balance in your bank account, a girlfriend, a stress free life, and the ability to drive around with your friends as you car will NEVER run EVER again it will simply break every part that you havent replaced yet. Once there are no more parts like that it will REBREAK the part that you already replaced but had to take off multiple time to get to the NEW broken part. So in a nutshell No matter how many of the torque specs you follow to a T from the Toyota Manual, no matter how much money you decide to dump into it, and no matter how much you learn about how your car works and what it is capable of.....Dont buy Magnecore wires or Craftsman Tools because in the end you have the most expensive 3400 pound paper weight.

Thank you and Good Night!

That would be very optimistic if you plan to do A+ work.

i was thinking the same thing, even when i took it to brad mayo....dont count on it going so smooth:eek: my car being obd2 brought up a few more problems as well. oil lines can be a pain, a headgasket swap will take time esp if you dont have lots of experience, and I had a problem with the larger injectors sealing properly (another obd2 hassle). In all, my car was down for about 2 months of work, started as something I figured to take no more than 2 weeks for everything....just ask brad mayo about it :p

I can have the headgasket changed in a day, within hours :)

You are talking to an ex MK3 owner here c'mon..:D ;)

The only thing I definately will be needing help with is the oil return line, I will have it taken to a local Supra shop here and have them get my supply/return line tapped in and good to go and have the car towed back here for completion.

What problems did you guys find with the OBD2 and how were they overcome? Thanks for all the info guys, its really helpful.
