Well I'm on the verge of buying my first mk3, (ex- mk4 owner). I'm looking for some information about the MK3 major problems, besides the head gasket..I'll be driving the car around 40 miles a day back and forth to school about 3-4 days a week.
Currently about the car:
Price:3500
Miles:200k

He has "replaced the power steering system (pump and lines), AC pump and some lines, both clutch cylinders, and rebuilt the alternator. The power steering was the oldest and it still only has a couple thousand miles on it. I'd trust the motor where it's at no problem and the R154 trannies are extremely strong. Even the fuel filter has been replaced in the past couple years."
What my goal out of this whole search is to find a nice, clean daily without having it bust, and me dropping tons of money into...would love feedback from members with this kind of skepticism...thanks
Matt
