Question About Installing K & N Filter? Help

741 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Steve Jarvis
Hi,

A shop wants to charge me $50 labor for installing a K & N filter. Isnt this just a drop in filter and I can install it by my self? Are they ripping me off on that? I am BPU'ing my car Friday so I told them I need some type of fairly priced air filter or intake and they said K & N is the best and I told them OK. But now, I am thinking about just buying it myself and putting in my self. I am getting RMM downpipe, Greddy BCC, Greddy Profec B Boost controller, APEX GT Spec exhaust, and some type of filter. How much HP do you think I will have after mods at say 18 PSI?? The car has 39,000 miles on it.

Thanks guys

The K & N is part number 33-2054 if this helps anyone answer my questions.

Thanks

The filter costs around $40 bucks so with tax and a couple bucks for labor isn't unreasonable. I'm assuming that $50 was selling you a filter and the installation price together.

Rami, this Air-Filter efficiency debate has been going on for so many years. I just went BPU myself and my car has the following mods
1)-Steve Jarvis air intake
2)-Old Style Apexi AFC
3)-MBC set at 18 Psi (at the time of Dyno, now 17 psi)
4)-RMM-DP
5)-Super dragger exhaust
On the above mods i made about 411 RWHP with 424 ft/lb torque. I think that u should go with, steve Jarvis intake too as
1)- It seals off the filter from the hot engine bay(remember cold air is more denser and more power)
2)- Grabs air from two locations, from under the turn signal and from above the radiator just like OEM. Personally i'm very happy with my intake and my #'s.
BTW it can b bought at www.mvp motorsports.com for about $240.
Regards. Yasir
filter price

They want to charge me $100 total for the filter and labor, this isnt right, is it? Also, thanks alot Yasir for the helpful information. Now, can I put the intake or air filter in my self??

Thanks and Yasir, where are you from? I am from Syria.

Rami
If its the K&N Drop in factory style filter then hell no, it literally takes 45 seconds to install it, no bullshit... pop the hood, open airbox, pull, drop, close. done.

Just do it yourself, those people have their head several feet up their asses I think.
Putting the parts on to get to BPU level is easy. If i can do it...anyone can!!!! if you need any help with install email me. I asked all the dumb questions once already just to get the knowledge i have today :)
If you can loosen and tighten hose clamps, you should be able to install a "MAX AIR" intake. This is what Yasir refered to as a Steve Jarvis intake. It is a little trickier if you have hard intercooler pipes, but otherwise it's very straight forward.

Later, Steve
