After searching and reading *many* pages of threads, I haven't seen anyone else suggest this so I thought I'd ask if this seemed like a good idea to pursue.

Since the primary problem with the 7M-GTE oil pickup is that the pickup tube inlet and the top of the screen are about 1 1/2" above the bottom of the pan, is there any reason not to just put a cylindrical metal skirt around the pickup that extends down to about 1/4" above the bottom of the pan? As long as it is sealed around the top to not let air in (welded? brazed? soldered? jbweld?) it would force the pickup to suck oil from the bottom 1/4" of the pan, which would cure the problem of our engines losing pressure in hard turns or when slightly low on oil. The bottom edge of the cylinder could be wavy so that there is no way that the pan could be pushed against it and starve the pump for oil. Does anyone see any downside to doing this?

Ive never gotten into the motor yet to see, just heard probs with it.
But what about extending the pickup tube?
I know on the Hondas it is like a 1/2inch tube if that with the pickup housing on it. If these are designed the same way, how hard could it be to get the same size pipe and extend it a little and weld it upnice?

I could be totally off, but just a though.
Can anyone post a pic of the pickup system for reference?

I had pics of my modified pick-up and pan, but since Shawndude left they are not posted anymore. If someone will post them I'll send you the pics.

Here is the thread I started many moons ago. Since the pics are no longer posted, I have had many request to send them. Evildoer357 (Glenn) has been kind enough to host them again.

Basically, the pick-up is of a poor design and sits too high off of the pan. I cut the stock one off, lengthened the tube and welded on a proper pick-up. I also had the shop that did this weld in kick outs on the pan. I'm still running the oil filter in the stock location and it can be removed without problem. Also, the external clearances on the pan are perfect and nothing hits from engine movement etc.

Enjoy! & thanks again Glenn!

If someone could make this a sticky and somehow ensure the pics don't get lost that would be great. I get lots of questions about this mod.
