ok...the probe of the egt is about 5 inches long..the dp is about 3 inches wide...the tap can be slid up and down the probe so it can be mounted wherever you would like..

(----------)-------------------[============ downpipe (probe) (wiring to gauge)

right now this is what it would look like..the probe would go completely through the dp and hit the other side and still have some of the probe sticking out on the side it entered..
so should i cut some length off the end so it looks like this

NO NO NO!!! Do not cut the probe, you will ruin it. There is mercury inside it just like a regular thermometer.
Please tell me what brand you have b\c I've never seen 5" probe. The longest I've ever seen is a the Apex & its no where near 5".
Did you buy a EGT gauge for a car? It doesn't sound like it.

Honestly, there is no solution unless you thread the probe up the entire DP.

I angled the probe up so instead of it going across
the downpipe it goes up and stops right in
the middle of the pipe where the two pipes
come together.
Hope it helps.

Peace,

ok..so i just have to put it in on an angle then...that makes sense..do i want the tip of the probe to be against the side of the pipe or in the middle of the pipe?

My probe fit fine directly across the DP. It is about a 1/4in away form the other side of the DP. He shouldn't have any problem with the probe.
