ok well i just got rod knock well4 days now but how do you know when a motor cant be rebuilt its knockin at idel now so i dont know wat ta do. my friend has a motor outa a 90 sitting but the guy he bought it from said it ran but what should i do about motor mounts, harnest shit and all that. i have an 87. i know i will prolly still put a headgasket on it so yea i dont know what ta do.

long as you dont put a hole though the block your probably good. Just make sure you dont drive on it anymore or you'll be buying a JDM engine very fast

I vote get the 90 motor (as long as it doesn't have like 220k on it hah) and just slap a cometic headgasket on it and give it a try. Then of course proper maintenence .

Edit: didn't see the part about the mounts and harness and etc, I guess I would look fully into both paths and get a dollar amount estimate for both. If they are near the same i'd do the rebuild.
