In response to the overwhelming demand... more pics. Unfortunately, it rained today - so no chance to go for a drive down a nice twisty road. Maybe next weekend.

I agree on the supportive - I actually got these because the stock supra seats aren't that supportive - compared to stock seats in say, a 300zx.

PS: The one thing I'm not that thrilled with is the seat belt buckle (part of the wedge bracket) - seems like it could be a little lower... Maybe it's time to look at 5 pt harnesses...

How much does powdercoating cost? Any estimates? lets say just for something small like the belt attachment, or hell...i dont know..lets also take the spark plug cover?...=P

The buckle itself could be powdercoated black. But if I do go with harnesses, it's a moot point, although I hear people that DO have harnesses saying it's a pita to put the harness on just to drive to the store...

However, if any of you diehard race fans do decide to go the harness route (assuming you already have a roll cage in your car, etc) - I'd suggest when you order your brackets from wedge, that you consider ordering them without the seat belt buckle attachment. It will probably make sliding the seat back and forth a little easier - right now it's a bit tight on the transmission tunnel.

As they aren't made anymore, I had to do some digging. I had been looking on ebay for a while, but found an ad on craigslist.org that listed them for sale at 950 for the pair. I picked them up that night for 900 for the set. Of course, tack on the wedge engineering brackets ($130) and the recaro sliders ($135) - and it's probably just over $1K.

But oh so worth it.

I think the SRD was replaced by the Recaro Speed. Some nice pics here:

If you don't have a cage, please don't get harnesses. I'd really rather not read of a supra owners death.

There's the potential that the roof/windshield can collapse if the car flips, and if you're locked in with a harness, you might have a tougher time escaping/ducking than if you have the stock belt.

The other drawback of not having a cage/bar when you do harnesses is that I've seen harnesses anchored immediately behind the seat, which will compress the spine on impact - the harnesses should be anchored perpendicular to your spine... (roll cages/bars usually have the attachments in the right place... )

It is pretty sound advice. So Adam - do you have a cage? Any suggestions?

(I did hold a SCCA drivers permit (2 races short of a racing license) a few years ago, plus I've had spent some time in formula dodges and spec miatas in various bay area race tracks)
