First let me say that I did search, but came up with nothing. I found a few threads about the sensor but not removing it.


My question is: how do you remove the crankshaft position sensor? Is it and easy thing to do? I found where the sensor location (front lower side of engine on the passenger side) but Im not sure how to remove it. If anyone knows a simple way to do this then please chime in. If anyone has a like or anything, that would be great.

Thanks ranger, that gives me a good idea of where everything is located, but I was looking for more of how to actually remove the sensor.

the sensor itself?

just remove your alternator and get it out of the way. then get a deep 10mm socket on your 3/8" drive ratchet and take the bolt out. then you can fish the sensor out from behind the crank pulley. it took me maybe 10 minutes to get the thing out... i just pray you crank sensor isnt hardwired to the harness like this one.

Cool, Ill try that later when I get home. It doesnt look like it is hardwired, Im pretty sure I followed it to the clip where its connected.

Is it nessesary to remove the alternator?

sounds good...

im sure its possible to pull the sensor w/o removing the alternator... it just means you have to pull the crank pully instead. i chose to pull the alternator since its far easier and doesnt require 200lb/ft of torque to reinstall.

This might sound like a dumb question,
-but when you put the new crank sensor in should you grease it up first or no?

-When you put it back in I know you should be careful doing so and not bang it up on things around it but does it matter if it does happen to touch things on the way in while passing by? I just dont wanna do it wrong so thanks to anyone that knows.

no it doesn't matter if it touches things. just put it in and put the bolt in and you'll be good to go.

hey bro, its basically a magnet inside, so you can touch the casing of it. and it doesnt touch anything else, so you dont need to lube it up at all. you should avoid lubing it anyways, because its inside the timing case and you dont want that stuff getting on the belt.

i have done it with out pulling any thing else but the questions should be it why are you changing it? and also if you do pull it put you finger in the hole and make sure the trigger wheel is not loose and also that its centered they tent to fall off the sprocket
