maybe its a dumb question. but i have rod knock again, and i know why but but question, is can i remove the number 4 piston without removing the head and the crank to replace the rod and piston? thanks
no. i've never removed a 7m-piston before, but from what i've seen with the head off and with the oil-pan removed, you can remove the piston and rod without pulling the crank but you have to remove the head to do it. the standard way is to push the piston up through the hole in the top of the block, hence removal of the head is neccessary.
edit: clarification: i have removed other pistons on other car engines before so i'm not totally talking out of my ass here.
its true. Especially if you plan on putting another piston back it. You need to compress the rings and feed the piston into the block so that the rings don't move or split. Best to tear it apart again. Sorry man.
