I'm trying to install a little shift light. I have connected the switched volts and the ground wires. They are working because the light comes on when the ignition is turned on. Now for the tach signal i read that people use the IG part in the diagnostic box in the engine bay. So i ran a wire to that and connected the green wire off the shift light to it. Now the problem is it doesnt come on at the desired rpm. Is there any other places i can try besides the ecu. Somewhere at the ignitor maybe?

Any help would be great. Thanks

Yeh it says clip the brown wire to calibrate for 6 cyl. Which i have done. The light doesnt come on at when the car is running. I've got it set to 3k rpm and rev it 2 that and nothing. The light does work tho because when i touch it on the battery terminals it flashes once, which is what it does when i turn the ignition on.

here is a pic attatched of where i ran the green rpm wire for the shift light to. I used switched volts from the clock and ground to a bolt connected to the chassis. The shift flashes on when i turn accesories on but doesnt come on at the set rpm. Can anyone tell me why it might not be working pleaseee?

thanks

Maybe wrong location. Just try directly at the ecu: E9 58 iirc.
i did and now the cars gone into limp mode and giving me a ignition signal code 14. :( thats why i didnt wana mess around with the ecu. Now the cars off the road again and i dont know what the problem is. Im pretty sure its a connection problem somwhere betweent he ecu to the ignitor.
and that damn ecu is in a damn orkward position isnt it!

Find the small plug on the igniter with 4 wires and connect it to the black wire. That's where I connected mine last week and it works fine. That's the easiest place to connect it. I hope you didn't blow your igniter. E9 58 doesn't appear to be a tach signal to me.

thanks dude! hmm it mite be a blown ignitor 2, i've already changed it from last time this limp mode happened and it didnt help.
i'll just try to eliminate things that couls be the cause and see how i go.
thanks again.

Waking this up from ages ago ... Does anyone know what format the signal going to the tach in the instrument cluster is ? I've seen lots of discussion about 5V square wave signals, sometimes noisy, etc. I want to pick off right at the tach motor ...
