Shifter Conversion: 97 into 93 ?

439 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  parboy
I would like to convert my 97 shifter throw into the shorter 93-95 throw. I find when driving a 93-95, it is much more "nochy" in feel which I prefer. What parts will I need to do this conversion? Part numbers would be helpful.

Thanks
Brittany

why not get the BD short shifter....it is a modified 93-95 shifter assembly...it works great in my 97
The only option for me is B&M. After having sold parts for a long time, the B&M quality is unsurpassed. However I am still wondering about the possibility of converting to stock 93-95.

Thanks

The B&M is stronger than the stock one from what I've heard. I've seen somebody break theirs and I would say go ahead and get the B&M. As for if a '93-95 would work on a '97-98 I would think so after taking it all apart in there. There isn't much room for them to change anything, but I would get the B&M instead.

Brit,

part#33530-14431 shift lever assy. list$105.69 cost $75.00

To my knowledge this is the only item you'll need except for some WD40 to losen up the bolts.

I bought a "short throw" B&M for Summitt for $200.00 ,It was an easy install.
Brit, I just swapped my 94 shifter out for a b&m. To get the b&m to fit, you have to dremel/file the hole in the car from square to round. Other than that, it is pretty straightforward. If you want to put an earlier mkiv shifter in yours, it slides right in. My 94 shifter is for sale if you are interested, email me. [email protected]
