Still new here, but definately not new to turbos. Been around them for 18 years of my life. I just sold my Dodge turbo Spirit that ran 13's to get a Supra.

So here's the rundown. Let me know any tips or what nots to do. I'd like to get any kind of MK3, preferably an '89+ with a targa top and a 5spd as a rolling chasis. From there I'd seperately buy a fresh 7mgte motor. Just like to have it have a new headgasket and that's all I'm realling looking for. Then if I have to buy a new trans. I will.

Upon selling my car I got a DD and some money for it all. So I've already opened an account to stuff money in for it. I've got $1,300 so far. :sadance:

Advice? Sound good?

Thanks,
-Bryan

Not to be wise but 18 years old does not qualify for 18 years of turbo auto experience dude. That being said get the basics down by checking the engine quality. Compression check each cylinder before doing any thing. Then if all is healthy; a compression of 140, or so you can go forward with a metal head gasket, and injetor and turbo upgrade. First get a metal head gasket installed and tprque the head to at least 75psi. :bigthumb:

Get lots more money... and go in steps. Dont go half ass and compalin later. If the motor is weak rebuild now while its not fucked!

lol I know 18yrs doesn't qualify for the experience. I'm saying they've been in my family and that's the only power adder that I've ever really tuned and worked on.

How much do you guys think I can get a rolling chasis with a trans. and put together a good motor for?

For the motor I just plan to (assuming the compression's good on all 6 cylinders) put a new headgasket on, new gaskets and seals all around, and whatever else may need replaced. I'm just snaggin a used motor.

Will any 7mgte motor bolt in and work hassle-free in any MK3?

I'm just guessing I'll need between $4,000 - $5,000 to do all this. Is that about right?

BTW I'm in Ravenna, it's near Akron.

That's disgustingly cheap for a Supra. No wonder you put so much in. What all went wrong if you don't mind me asking? I'm really trying to do my homework here so In know what I'm getting in to. I'm already commited. There's no turning back now.

Dude that is the biggest mistake you will make. You ask for advice get it and screw up majorly even before you get started. You wont last long doing it your way. Assuming a motor is in good condition is a major mistake. I hope you mean assuming the compression is good after you have done a compression test. Its your money and only a few rebuilds befor you blame the car for your mistakes. Good luck.

Take it easy killer. I'm used to cheap ass rebuilds using stock used parts. Keep in mind I could do a rebuild on the Dodge for less than $400. I'm getting used to it all. Money's not a huge object here, I don't have many bills.

I'm simply testing out the waters here, seeing what I can and cannot do. Don't jump down my throat just because I'm more ignorant on these cars than anyone else.

So okay, assuming aside. Build it right, because obviously stock pistons wont handle 20psi like my motor did. I'll just do some browsing on vendors and see who offers good prices on forged pistons. Are the rods and cranks pretty strong on these motors? I'm not looking for more than 18psi. I'll see what else I can pull up on fuel upgrades as well. Any suggestions on a vendor for the forged internals and fuel upgrades?

nothing went wrong. I got a great deal on it. I did little stuff like tires on my sawblades, ujoint, control arms, and other misc. stuff. Actually now that i think about it, my performance list is more than maintenence.....however my car was taken care of because i knew the owner....you may not be so lucky

$400, $500, $700 thats a POS, and you wonder why the mk3 crowd is looked like cheap bastards.

YOU NEED TO SEARCH BEFORE ASKING 101 QUESTIONS.

Really it's not so much being cheap. Why just because we don't want to spend huge dollars where we don't have to?

Basically if you use the search function and search for 'Rebuild' or something of the like, i'm sure you'll pull up a couple threads on what to do and what not to do for your power goals.

Remember the Golden Rule, Search before asking.

save some more like these guys said, i paid 1500 for my car, 250 for a new rad installed, 120 for new hoses * NOT ALL *, oil changes, & diff bearing change & refil = 200. Plus the 140 for a new intake & over 600 for the galiath cat back. I should have did a MHG first but you live & learn :)

No one's jumpong down your throat, but it is what it is...good sound advice on how to properly do a 7m rebuild once. If it irritated you don't ask questions you may not want to hear anwers to. I would anwser this the same even if you had 3000 post, newb or not!

Respectfully speaking

if you look around there are decent running cars around for 2-3k. If your looking to spend 4-5 you can get a pretty damn nice car for if you just be patient and look. if you want to go with a shell and put it a rebuilt motor be my guest just do us all a favor and do it right the first time so we don't have to hear another "why did I blow my headgasket". I'm really gettin sick of stupid people. no offense meant, just like said before search first.
