So i just inherited my Uncle's 98 Supra TT ....
The car drives fine with literally NO steering wheel vibration with stock wheels and tires, i have taken it to 110 mph with NO vibration anywhere.
About 2 months ago i purchased a set of wheels with new tires. NOW i have steering wheel vibrations. Light vibrations around 55 mph and HEAVY vibrations around 65 mph.
i have taken the car to 5 tire shops and all 5 tell me that the previous tire place DID NOT do a good job at balancing the tires and their balance is good. Well after getting back on the road and hitting the why i get the same vibrations.
Last place i took it to was Discount tire and had them put the tires on that road force machine ... Again they said it was not balanced right, jeez what a shock again, so they did their balance. Took the car on the hwy and while i thought it was fixed because i didn't get ANY vibration at all for the 1st 5 miles, on the way back, the opposite side of the hwy, the vibraton came back and back to the same issue.
I took the wheels and tires to (2) bent rim repair shops for them to tell me the wheels and tires are fine and no bent wheels.
I tell them the car DOES NOT vibrate on stock wheels and tires but DOES vibrate on these. They said my wheels are fine. Ok ....
I sent the wheels back to the manufactorer and paid $350 for shipping there and back for them to tell me my wheels are FINE and not warped or bent .... Yet when i drive on them, i get vibratons where i dont get any from the stock wheels and tires.

I am completely lost and have spent about $600 in balancing fees and shipping fee's to have these wheels tested and balanced over and over to tell me there is nothing wrong with my wheels YET i have light vibration around 55 mph and HEAVY vibration around 65 mph AND i can feel a slight front end wheel hop while in idle cruise speed ...

Then they want to tell me its my car and there is something wrong with my suspension. I am lost and don't know what else to do .....

Do these balancer operators look like they're on meth? I usually stand next to them and check the readouts on the machine myself. If I had to guess, after your Discount Tire job, and no vibrations for the first few miles, one of your lugs might have been loose. Whenever I take the wheels off on my cars, I put them back on, torque them down, and then drive a little bit, half a mile or so, and then retorque. Sometimes there's a decent amount of turn on a wheel, especially if they're not hub concentric.

Your Uncle must have really liked you! Congrats! Any pics?

What wheels did you buy and what tires did you have mounted on them? How much weight is there total on each wheel? (Lots of wheel weights to try to balance it - bad sign) Did you get hubcentric rings mounted? What lugs did you get to match the new wheels?

Well dang, after everyone saying the wheels are fine I only have one thing. Check to see if there's a tire that's out of round a tad?
Other thing to check is rotate the setup. If the vibration moves to the rear then it's the wheel/tire. If it doesn't then I would be looking at all the suspension components.

My grandfather got it NEW in 98. Then passed in 2010, my uncle, which is my moms brother or his son took it and held it for 10 yrs, then in 2020 he calls me and asked if i wanted it and i was like .... YEA .... He said its yours under 1 stipulation, you come, load it up and take it home. I said OK ...
So i took a week off, drove up 1100 miles, got there rented a uhaul carrier, loaded up the car and drove it home.

The wheels are JNC 005's ... I do have the hub rings that match the wheel to the center hub.

This video is the wheel that looks WARPED ....

This is the STOCK wheel and tire .. NO warp, clean and ROUND ...

They won't let me in near the machine for "safety" reasons ... I asked all of them if i catch watch them and they said no. I just find it very interesting that each shop says the previous didn't balance it right ...

Yeah, it's warped. Either replace it, or see if it can be fixed. Might be difficult.
i agree 100% but i only have 2 tire shops that do wheel repair and they both say the wheels are fine and im like, can you NOT see that warpage there ???? They keep saying its my suspension.
I even sent the wheels back to JNC and spend $350 for shipping and waited damn near 3 months to get them back to tell me the wheels were fine ..
They won't replace them because they are not warped and the wheel repair shops say they are not bent or warped .... So im like .. am i f'ing crazy here or what ??

Post it up on social media tagging them and all the popular car/wheel hashtags, maybe they'll offer a replacement, but I doubt they will. They'll more than likely state that you drove on the wheels multiple times and maybe hit something. To save money I'd get wheels in the same spec so I could reuse the tires.

What the bad part is, i have to have the wheels inspected before putting them on the car or before putting tires on. Thats what i did, paid Discount tire to inspect them and they were fine .... Yet they are NOT.
I and YOU can clearly see in that video they are warped yet nobody in any of these tire shops can see this.

Being totally honest, JNC's are cheap cast garbage wheels that aren't worthy of being on a MK4 period let alone a US spec '98. The 'warp' you're seeing is the symptom of a barrel that is straight but bent out of axis with the wheel hub, more technically known as wheel 'runout'. Some wheel repair places can fix runout, I wouldn't waste the time on JNC's as it's likely to exceed the cost of a new wheel.

Hopefully you can get some kind of resolution from them, but I'd agree at this point sell the JNC's with full disclosure of the issue, keep the tires, and move on to a higher quality wheel that has business on a Supra.
Enkei offers some excellent wheels for the money if you're not comfortable spending big $ on wheels. But for a '98 I'd spend the extra cash to get top shelf wheels to match what is a top shelf car. Not cheap heavy soft & easily bent drift missile wheels.

I'm w/ Wreckless on the cheap wheels, but I've also had brand new tires that will not hold a balance. I think it's due to a manufacture defect or improperly stored prior to the retail sale. The other problem is the balancing shops. They just want to push a button & slap on weights, road force or not. The correct way is match mounting a tire, but it is a major PIA. It requires mounting, dismounting & balancing the tire 3 to 5 times to index the tire to the rim for the least amount of weight. You can spend a hour per tire if your unlucky lining things up & doing it 5 or more times. So your 49.95 balance & rotate special isn't worth a shit in this circumstance.
If you want to get tricky, ask them what the overall static balance # was. It needs to be below .1, preferably .05 or less. Also there should be 1 weight on the inside lip & 1 weight behind the face. If you see multiple weights or scattered around the rim they are slapping weights to zero it out which is WRONG. You can balance a tire to zero w/ a high overall static balance & it will still shake.

JNC wheels are the underlining issue. Factory bent is a new low for Chinese cast wheels.

Depending on your desired wheel size you can still purchase new one piece forged sets. They will be worth every damn penny too.

I'd keep the stock wheels on that before putting JNC,XXR,ESR or any other cheap rep. Some of my forged wheels balance with zero weights at all. You can get good money for your stock wheels to help with nicer wheels if they're out of budget

The hubcentric rings for the JNC wheels are the correct size for the supra? If you have a set of calipers, measure the ID of the ring and OD on the wheel hub of the car. Depending on the type of lug nuts used, it can shift if the rings aren't correct.

i got the hubcentric rings from JNC direct and they seem to fit fine. I have driven with them ON and OFF and no difference at all.
