if youve ever looked inside any kind of BOSE boxes, you will see that they use the "maze" as well, it helps channel the sound waves and makes for a clearer sound that can be heard around the whole room (rather than just where the speakers face.

I built a fiberglass box that attaches to the top of the stock sub box while allowing the targa to still fit. I was able to get a 10" sub back there, but with the targa... that as big as you will get. As far as the maze goes, I just left it alone and attached my enclosure on top. I am very pleased as I now have to turn the bass down because it is too loud instead of the stock woofer cracking. FWIW I worked in mobil electronics for 10 years.

its called a transmission design. helps the back wave get lost long enough to not cancel out the front wave.very old desighn,but very cool at the same time.
