Stubby Antenna on MKIV

Well, I finally got sick and tired of hearing about how big and wacky my antenna looks (OEM Antenna fishpole that is)... So after countless attempts at searching for an aftermarket replacement to no avail (search button gets you to the shark II but that antenna is sold out or discontinued), i decided to make my own. Even if the shark II was available, (some members on the board are using this setup) I would not have used it, #1 because i think it's still to tall and #2 i don't like the way it leans to one side (i like the perfectly straight look).

Nonetheless, I decided to make my own 2inch S2000 style antenna using the stock mounting hardware. It wasn't totally easy, but it worked. Here is the end result. DOn't mind the dusty car and my wingless holes :bigthumb: . BTW, i have perfect reception, no problems at all... I will get more daytime picts later...

PS: The Mast is Aluminum so it can be painted to match your car, that might be a plus for some of you...

that looks a lot better then the stock fishing pole. How did you make it? What parts did you need to buy? You think you could make some sort of write up so other supra owners such as myself can attempt to do what you have done?

That looks alot better than the stock antenna that makes your car look like an RC toy. :D

I just unplugged the relay for my antenna since I never use the radio anyway... I still get good reception other than around hills and under overpasses. But that's only like once every other blue moon.

Thanks Guys,
I'm probably going to help STSupDog do this mod on his car, so i'll try to take picts and make a DIY write up. It's pretty straight forward if you are remotely mechanically inclined... The hardest part of the process was finding a 10mm flared nut (and that only took 5min looking in my parts bin) 2nd hardest was grinding the nut down... But i'll get into specifics later with picts... for now, you'll have to enjoy what you see... :bigok:

You like no reception and the look of a fish pole sticking out of your car....Yup, consider our self certified...  :gapteeth:

try it, and let me know how it looks and works... :wtf:

Besides, the stubby antenna is only 2inches tall, you can barely even tell that it's there... I guess to each his own...

Any sticker place can make the vinyl stickers for you.. Just tell them size and color... Black is obviously the easiest to match... :bigthumb:
