88 non-turbo, N.A. automatic (yeah, a dog, I know) however...

should there be any play in the driveshaft center bearing? I mean like a half inch up and down?

I've been getting a pronounced clunk going throuth the gears and thought it was a u joint...they're sound, but the driveshaft is able to move a lot at the bearing...
I assume this should not be the case?

Question 2, what is a good source for bearing replacement?

Yes, the center bearing that hold the 2-piece driveshaft to the frame...I thought it should be tight...lots of slop is never good...

There should be a minimal amount of play. If you have that much you either need a new carrier bearing or you might want to replace the 2 piece shaft with a 1 piece steel or aluminum shaft.
