If it had the name Celica I would probably be ok with it. Especially since they have an inline 4 they placed in Japans lower trim level, it could have been a proper successor to the GT-Four sans 4 wheel drive.
But it wouldn't sell or develop this level of hype if it was a Celica.

I agree.
Especially because anything with a FR layout is far better than the 7th generation Celica. Like many, I stopped paying attention after 99'.
Even better, like the Celica that gave birth to the Supra idea, the A90 as a Celica could have bought Toyota time (and another money maker) while they worked on a TRUE A90.

They could have easily called it a Celica Turbo or MR2 Turbo and sold infinitely more units at a 35-40k price point no problem.

It would be an easy sale with FT86 customers with that 3.0 inline turbo. Would have been a hit because it would come out of the box boosted with a high mod ceiling.

It already looks exactly like the FT86

No need to Frankenstein your little BRZ to make serious power.

People love the JDM units of cars also sold here because they are factory boosted. Much better to have a clean factory JDM unit than hack up your local 180sx. I always wondered why automakers never took advantage of this for so long. This would have been a smart move for Toyota had they not taken the gimmicky way out calling it a damn Supra when it's clearly not.

Plus it's 2019. To the older generation, Celica doesn't spark the spirit like the upper tier 90s Japanese cars. But for the new generation a Celica Turbo would have been hyped, welcomed and celebrated. Even with the BMW outsourcing.

Instead Toyota got greedy and tried to plagiarize on the respect of the MKIV, and unfortunately for them, life doesn't work that way.

Now they are faced with fighting 2 or 3 weight classes above their own against the C8 and they are going to get crushed. With a 40k Celica Turbo or MR2 Turbo, the C8 problem doesn't exist.

Toyota sold it's motorsports soul to try and make a profit and they got a checkmate from the universe.

Once the bought and paid for hype wears off youre going to see all of the YouTuber Zupr4s, and the ones owned by those influenced to buy, start popping up everywhere at dealerships from trade-ins. 100% and it's not even close.

Some people think the McRib is delicious, some people like me think its pig guts in a pork molded skin diaper. There are always two types of people.
True, but the people in the second bucket are just plain wrong. The McRib is objectively delicious.

Lol I don't get the allure of the Mcrib either. Had it once, tasted like any other $1 frozen ground pork bbq sandwich.

Warning: side effects include uncontrollable drooling, jitters, craving for more ribwiches, weight gain, sauce stains on your shirt and spending money on more ribwiches. Do not eat Krusty ribwiches if you have: hunger problems, craving for meat, drool problems or a big fat body. Notify your doctor or health pharmacist if you have these symptoms or better yet: Don't go to Krusty Burgers at all.

Not sure if there is a thread yet for MKV road racing or autocross but this video i liked a lot since it's a untuned stock motor car. Wheels are upgraded and actual time attack at Road Atlanta. It gets good after the 1 minute mark. More track cars welcome

This is where the MKV will shine. Jackie also went wheel to wheel with tuned track cars and did quite well.

He wants a tune because it really falls flat on its face after 90mph even with the 8 speed box. The cornering ability seems fine but I dont like the stability control taking away steering control mid corners when it senses slip. Sure it's safe sometimes but hopefully the E LSD and tire pressure sensors wont need all the systems enabled to work properly all the time

If the Mazda Miata is a pair of training wheels for track newbies, the Toyota Supra is the big-kid bike that hones fine motor skills. It drives with a back-to-basics purity that is easily controlled but not exactly forgiving. With enough torque to spin the car in any corner and handling that's as neutral as Switzerland, the Supra doesn't suffer fools gladly. Either you learn to move your hands and feet in unison or you'll eat turf and tire wall.
The Supra is in its element on every inch of the Grand Course's 4.1 miles, but nowhere more so than on the final third of the track. The infield through Hog Pen is a series of sweeping combinations that could be described as a bunch of freeway on-ramps stitched together. Through those sections, a steering wheel cuts back and forth like a low-frequency pendulum, never really settling in one direction.

The Toyota skates from track edge to track edge with the deftness of a lighter car. Slightly soft by today's standards, the suspension moves around under duress, but the amount of squish and bounce communicates to the driver how close you are to the limit in a way the steering doesn't. That said, you can consistently steer the Toyota with precise throttle control, a key advantage in this section of the track.

The Supra is in its element on every inch of the Grand Course's 4.1 miles, but nowhere more so than on the final third of the track.

A 3:01.4 lap punches above the Supra's pounds-per-horsepower ratio, landing amid 500-hp giants including the 2006 Corvette Z06 and Viper SRT10. In the 13 years of Lightning Lap, only two cars have run faster with less power: the Ariel Atom 3 and the KTM X-Bow, which are essentially full-size go-karts with fun-size curb weights. And yet, the Supra is just as capable of thrilling your inner child as either of them. Master the Supra's balance and you'll rediscover youthful joy.

Virginia International Raceway. Its a nice sized track but the Supra seems to come up quite short of expectations for a 2 seater pure sports car. 5 seconds slower than the Porsche Caymen GTS and 3 seconds slower than the Audi TTRS. Luckily it does does surpass the WRX and Civic type R by a couple of seconds. It really needs a big power bump for a modern car. All time results below, years included.
