First of all, this is more of a light wounding than a kill. Also, all parties
involved are friends so the races were in the name of good fun.

His car: 2nd gen Mitsu Eclipse AWD. Built motor, GT30(custom trim but
similar) turbo, 264 cams, tubular exhaust, fuel system, tuned for 17 deg
timing, 2700 lb(fair amount of weight reduction), max boost of 27lbs,
running PUMP 93 octane with meth injection. I can not remember other
details.
My car: Mods in signature. Stock fuel/MAF, 21 lbs on pump gas + meth inj.
Weight: 3500lbs for car only. So a 800 lb weight difference in the cars.

1st run from ~30mph. Not a good speed for the Eclipse. I spooled first and
pulled and kept pulling fairly hard to ~100mph(about 5-6 legnths). The auto
with 3800 stall really shines in this range. I pulled more than I had expected
to this point, partly due to a starting speed that favored my car, and was
thinking I would keep pulling without issue. At ~110mph I notice I am not
really pulling anymore. Up to 130mph we just maintain the 5-6 car difference.
Damn, this Eclipse is for real.
We pull over and talk a while and decide to turn around and go from 50mph.
I thought that would be a good speed for the Eclipse but his rpm's where too
low and I pulled ~1.5-2 cars on the spool(neither of us brake boosting for these
races) and another 1-1.5 cars to 110mph and then we held that distance up
to ~135mph. My car is an automatic so I lose mph up top, but I trapped 102mph
in the 1/8th mile at just 20lbs and it pulls well up through the 130's. I have
always been impressed with the Mitsu 2.0 but this car is VERY street friendly
and running on pump gas really impressed me by how stout it ran.
The closeness of this race bothered me enough that I now have the boost set
for 23lbs(air/fuels still below 11.8). I am going to ask the owner to run me
at this boost but go from his best starting speed(~35-40mph) and see how it
goes. BTW, I am running 100% meth on Derek's kit with the larger "15" nozzle.
My hat is off to a very stout true street car.

Yeah, that and a raised rev limit would help a good bit but I want to
stay on stock fuel/maf with the meth if it keeps working well. The turbo
and cams are better suited to higher boost and a fuel system for sure.
I am trying to keep the mods very limited, but as soon as you get used
to a given power level , you want more. :)
Thanks

Next time, try him from a stand still

He doesn't want to race from a standstill. The first 330' is
where my automatic with stall is at its best. Up top I lose
some pull for that reason. He can trap in the 125-126mph
range but is hard pressed to run better than 10.9-11.1 for
et. He has a stout car. 93 octane power. :bigthumb:
Thanks to everyone for the replies,

Wayne, congrat on the fun run and still prove that a 3500+lb can do the damage.
I have a T78 with stock fuel as well and just caurious what other mods that you done and able to run at such a fairly high boost with stock fuel. Btw, meth injection, what is that? Have you ever dyno your car?

The meth injection is the kit from Anarkey. It sprays methanol
into the throttle body starting at 12lbs of boost. I run the
standard flow kit with the larger 15gph nozzle. Running 100%
meth(I don't mix it with water) this adds enough fuel for ~100
extra hp. It also cools the intake charge and increases octane.
I have not dyno'd the car with the single yet. I will be running
at MIR on the 25th of this month, so I guess I will find out then.
I have not run the meth on a 1/4 mile pass yet. I ran [email protected]
at 16 lbs without the meth. My 1/8th mile trap was 97.6 on that
run. I made a few 1/8th mile passes with the meth at 20 lbs and
trapped 102mph in the 1/8th. I really want to know what 1/4 I can
run at the 23-24lbs I am currently running. I hope it runs well.
Try the meth injection, I really like the added boost it allows
me to run.
Thanks

With a loose converter his car will rocket away from a dig like one of those magnetic costers. :)

Thanks for all the replies. I really need to get back
to the track and see how she runs at this boost.
The Eclipse is a fairly strong car, but in the world of
74+ mm single Supras running 30+ pounds of boost,
it is pretty slow. But so am I. I just have to keep things
in perspective. :)

Nice kill. :bigthumb:

That's pretty light for a 2G. My car has subtle weight reduction but it still weighs over 3,000lbs with me in it & gas. :bigthumb:

Yeah, I was surprised about the weight. I know alot of DSM owners
have gone with the GT35 turbo but I was very impressed with the
streetability/power of his GT30. What boost were you at when you
trapped the 126 in your sig? Thanks.

SpoolinTalonAWD: No vids yet. Maybe if the track doesn't get rained
out this weekend I will get some vids then. Yeah, I know about the
DSM drivetrains. I've had 3 Galant VR4's. Definate love/hate with
them. :)

At that speed with a better 60' you'll be at mid to low 11's.
