Targa rattles...ALOT

820 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  rjhoskins
i just got my Supra so im not sure if this is normal or not but when the top is on it rattles ALOT. Every little bump and in makes a lound sound. It sounds like there are marbles inside it or something.

I dont know if its the screws or something inside it though. I take my hand and grab the top of the roof while im going and a pull down on it but it doesnt help any. And i tighten all the screws good too.

Even little things like touching the breaks at a medium preasure will make it "squeak" like when rubber rubs against each other.

Anyone else have this problem, or atleast know what is is or how to fix it?

Mine does that too.

Make sure all the bolts are tightened down TIGHT!

also make sure the center lock is turned and locked, that seems to make the most noise on mine, when I dont turn it to locked.

If that doesnt help you can pull the top apart and check to see if anything rattled loose. The cloth bottom will pop off revealing a sheet metal X structured subframe with a dozen yellow tabs ( the best way I know to describe it) attached to it. One of the tabs may have broken off and is rattling around in there.

Hope this helps.

Agree - the flexing can work them loose (although it's not likely if you get them real snug).
When you put the top back on:
tighten the bolts pretty good, then
after an hour of driving, or so, check and re-tighten.
check on a regular basis.
