Your mechanic should know better, the bypass keeps the coolant from warming the air as it enters the throttle body, cooler air is more densely packed with oxygen and therefore produces more power upon combustion.
Iamthebull...not saying you're fullofbull, but 97mph in a stock '91 Taurus SHO?
