Would someone mind checking something for me please.
The pulley is etched with degrees of movement and also TDC for top dead centre. Would someone mind checking when the engine is at Top dead centre is the TDC marking sitting at "0" on the timing case or at 12 o'clock.
I'm sure it sits at 12 o'clock but might be wrong.
Thanks very much
John

I know that when I was running one (before it got fucked on install of a new motor) my timing marks were close to the 0 on the timing cover.
By close, I do mean close as the marks were off by 5 degrees

with mine, i set the timing before i put the pulley on. I always set the timing using the crank pulley timing gear to the oil pump and then the cams.
Just seems more "proper" in my eyes.

But yeah, my pulley was off by 5 degrees and this can be confirmed by a number of people here.

hmm isnt the titan damper a rebadged ATI super damper?

pretty sure mine is exactly on with OEM TDC mark

i set mine with the pistons.. with the head off and it lined up.

news to me if these things can come inaccurate.

0 TDC is also at about 11 oclock definitely not 12 oclock. the keyway on the crank snub will be at about 10-11 oclock.

I've reset my timing now. I'm going to fire the car up tomorrow so let's see what sort of difference it's going to make on tickover. Quite a lot I hope. The timing on both cams was advanced 1 tooth.
What do you guys think.

It's been awhile but I could of swore when I put my ati damper on, the tdc was at the 0 mark so its more like 11 o'clock postion instead of straight up, this is verifed with the timing gear etc... I remember moving the pulley itself to the 12 o'clock postion and the bolt holes don't match up.

the key weigh/ timing mark on the crank is at 12 on the oil pump. You probably 1 tooth off as you are suspecting. I just did my timing belt and was waiting on parts, so i had to keep taking it on and off to get it in and out of the shop. The car still started- very delayed and angerly, but it would start with 1 tooth off. once it got running it wasnt all that tempermental but took a good 30 seconds of crank time. I think i was even 2 teeth off and still go it started. stock cams though so i wasnt worried. whenever you have the tensioner out, put a wrench on the intake cam turn counter clockwise, then exhaust cam, not enough to move the timing but remove all the slack, otherwise when you reinstall the tensioner its going to take the play out for you which can throw you a tooth off.
