Well I had the pleasure of driving an SP63 equipped 6 speed at Bradenton Memorial Dragstrip this past sunday. The car had the above mentioned SP63 (first time driving one ) mounted on an HKS header, with an HKS wg and what appeared to be an SP dual feed fuel system, VPC, GCC, Profec b, and Arizona clutch (first time driving one :) with a B&M short shifter (first time again)

I arrived with et streets on ccw's to meet the owner, we only used the backs (no skinnies)

Well the first run was used to set the boost level and feel out the clutch, turbo and shifter. The run felt good, but the launch wasn't all there....10.9 @ 129 1.68 60', boost ended up around 1.7 kg and 670c egt's with probe mounted in dp (rich)

The second run turned it up a bit and went out again, the launch was about the same (both runs let the clutch out a bit too early with the revs too low) 10.8 @ 130 1.68 60' , boost was about 1.9 and egt's about the same.

Third run I felt more comfortable with the clutch and luanched it much better....but missed third !shit!. 11.00 @ 131 1.59 60' , Same boost and egt's

Fourth run, nailed the launch and hit the gears pretty well and went 10.7 @ 131 with a 1.55 60'

Fifth run was hotlapped and nailed the launch really well but missed second as the clutch was a bit reluctant to go into gear :(
would not go in until the third or fourth try. This run was an 11.6 @ 130 1.54 60' (remember 2nd gear is still within the 60')

Anyways, with the car tuned a bit better and getting the 60's that I got at the end the car should have no problem doing 10.40's at around 134-135 and if the temps were better ( they were in the upper 80's easily) the car would go faster still.

I had to cut it short to make an appointment, but I will try to set up another outing. Te owner was very happy as he had only hoped for 11's this first outing.

Angel,

We need those 60ft's on my car ;) ;)

Let's get it back to the track. We can and will get them, just need a couple of passes, then it's on to the nines :)

Call me as there is a special thing going on this week that I was invited to and we may want to consider going.....
Great driving Angel:) Do the cars you drive on slicks ever get loose on you? What's the best way to control them? I'm sure your experience helps too.

Scott

Peace
Great runs Angel! Does the car have a Revlimiter? What rpm's did u launch at? With radials on the front did the car feel squirrely up top? How much pressure were u running in the tires? How is the lag on the car?

Thanks Scott.

They do get loose at times. The key is not to over correct or over react for that matter. When the car starts to go sideways on you , it is important to stay in it and just barely and very gradually apply a steering correction. If you let off more weight shifts forward and you will just magnify the problem. Also as you probably know, the et streets and et drags do not like to change direction quickly so being smoth in that regards is of paramount importance. Running a bias ply "skinny" up front helps as does running a more dedicated drag suspension setup ( not anything I want on my supra)but nothing will elimate it completely. Just have to kind of go with the flow :)

Thanks Ced,

It has the rev limiter moved to 7800 (not really too much of a factor with this turbo, but it helps)

I was launching around 6500-7000.

It was a little squirrely, but nothing too bad. The fourth run was probably the loosest. The car was really dancing around. I have had mine go so far sideways that I was looking at the wall.....lucky for me it happened down low :)

I was running 11-13, settled on 12 as ideal for that track that day.
I have run as little as 10....when you drop below 11.5 or so there is a chance for the tire to spin on the wheel. That's why they use wheel screws, but we aren't using them....yet :)

Oh yeah, the lag.

I didn't really notice any lag, but I just drove it to the line , did a burnout , staged and then went. It felt really responsive under those conditions....but then again most people would have you believe that a T78 or T88 is some really laggy monster or at least they would have up until recently, and I never felt that to be the case either so perhaps I am not the best judge.
Lag ? There's no lag on a T 88 :) ;) :) hehe
How much boost do you think is left in it...that was about 25psi correct? What that done with a .81 and do you know if that car has been dynoed? Thanks
G
He had a profec b and that is all that it would give....but the turbo would go 30+ I am sure.

I think it was a .81. And I think it made 609rwhp @ 24 psi but I am not sure about that.
G
great times man! you got one fast a$$ supra.

Good driving Angel!! You need to come and drive my car. It has plenty of good luck in it since it has your brothers turbo. :D

Hey Angel...its dave, i met up with you awhile ago and you took me for a spin in your supra...jesus car had a fuel system problem that day, i drove the honda. Well i finally got a supra, had it quite a while now and I want to go single :D You or know anyone selling a turbo system? I need everything, the turbo, the manifold, the wastegates, the bov, the dp, etc, etc. Right now I am completely stock and considering my options for a single turbo upgrade...i dont want to waiste my time with bpu, i'll go single instead :D

Well if you have anything for sale, even if its just a boost controller or an exhaust or maybe a fmic...let me know. I want to meet up with you again as I have a boost leak for sure at my EGR. We did a check and found 1 leak there and I think there may be 1 more minor around the stock BOV.

oh and BTW it doesn'thave to be just you selling stuff angel, if you know anyone selling anything please give me there contact info.

Thanks a bunch and hope to meet up with you again.

If you choose a big single...........I am selling an HKS shorty downpipe for $130. You have to have this shorty DP if you get a T-78, T-88 or several others (not sure exactly which ones), unless you want to cut and weld the Rod Millen DP which is $350 plus labor.
The DP is brand new with the screws and gasket still in the plastic bag.
