1st = 40 mph

2nd = 65 mph

3rd = 90 mph

4th = 115+ mph

5th = 150+ mph

6th = 159 with limiter, 175 without, 185-190 at BPU

This is with stock tires. Bigger tires will make your top speed higher in each gear of course.

heheh Trini it was me. I was using Chad's computer and assumed his name was logged in.

...............as if Chad would know the top speed of each gear! :allcho: j/k

Those numbers are in the various mags that tested the car new plus I have verified all of them except 6th, and that gear has been verified more than enough times by others.

Using a 275/40/17 tire I get:

1st: 43
2nd: 70
3rd: 98
4th: 126
5th: 166
6th: 210

Using a 255/40/17:

1st: 42
2nd: 68
3rd: 96
4th: 123
5th: 162
6th: 205

Remember that our tachometer reads low by ~200 rpm, so when the mags calculated speeds they may have done it at 6600.

Chip,

Thanks for the #s. I'm running 285s in the rear now and should be seeing similar speeds in each gear.

I always wondered why the Supra's redline was 6800 but shifting at 7000 always seemed best.

I did get alot of my problems resolved, a few more minor things and my car will finally be 100%. None of which affect performance, except the possibility of a faulty EGCV actuator :(

Anway, do you know when Fontana is opening, and do you plan on making a trip down there when they do? I still have yet to run my car at the track and I'm glad I skipped the Famoso drag dag (Carlos with the white 98TT said you were getting a little "frustrated" at the track).

Let me know when you'll be down at either Carlsbad or Fontana and I'll try and make it out.
Fontana opens the weekend of 12/13 January. I plan to be there on the 12th.

Man, Carlos was right. That track was sooo slick I could not run well, my best pass was 13.3 @ 117, and that was not going wide open until the top of 3rd. I had a lot of runs that were much worse, and no matter how soft I was on the gas as soon as I was into the rpm where the 2nd turbo spools the car broke loose and went sideways. Really sucked, but now I know never to bother with a track when there has been very recent rain and the temps are cool.

You were lucky not to go, it was a waste of $65.00 plus time.

(If you know Zo Faridi, his 300Z went [email protected], I was really impressed by that.)

Also, as far as when to shift, on a BPU car make your first 3 gear changes at 7000, 6700 and 6400 (1-2, 2-3 and 3-4) as indicated on the tach.

Did you calculate those shift points from your own dyno chart?

Am I shifting at lower RPMs in higher gears because the turbos are out of their maximum efficiency range after that RPM in those gears?
Those are from my dyno, but Andi B.'s calculations are the same for his car. I doubt +/- 100 rpm is really critical anyways.

You want to shift when horsepower in your current gear is equal to, and just about to be lower than, what the HP in the next gear up would be.
