I used to drive a sleeper Supra, low 13's, looked like ass. Body panels dinged in, black rims, etc. I am putting the engine back in and hope to be much faster, but I was torn between going stock, wingless, black rim look, or Bomex UAD-068 + chrome MKIV rims + a fresh coat of paint. I am going to paint the car regardless, but a sleeper is damn fun. I was thinking about making the car a little nicer looking, but the only problem is, I have a lot of electronics/gauges in the car, and I live in NY and park on the streets. Wouldn't want a break in... Any ideas on making a clean, nice looking MKIII that isn't attractive to theives?

Get polished MKIV rims (no chrome it is way heavy) and put the whale tail on. That really isn't showy. It may not be sleeper, but it really isn't that attention grabbing.

BTW - all cars are attractive to theives. There really isnt anything you can do to prevent theives. If there is stuff to steal, they'll get it. Its just luck.

Get rid of that damn signature! It is too big! It is christmas not halloween

A stock front with MKIV rims and a nice paintjob isn't going to make it a non-sleeper, hell even the bomex front won't make it a non-sleeper.

I say paint it, put whatever kit on it you want, and put wheels on it, I'd rather kick sombodies ass and look good doing it than "suprise" sombody with a rusted dented POS... remember anybody can have an ugly fast car.

There's a big difference between having a showy car and having a clean stock body with nice rims and good paint. Hell, probably half the cars on the road today have those 3 attributes. Just because someone takes car of their car(no dings, etc.), doesn't make it any less of a sleeper.

IMO, get the nonchromed mkiv rims, a nice new paintjob on the stock body(or add a nice front lip), and put your gauges and electronics in the stock gauge cluster or glove box to not attract unwanted attention. And for an even more stock look, get that dual tip hks exhaust or build a custom one like it so no one sees a big can and thinks "this kid is looking for a race" or anything like that.

Already got the chromed rims and they are heavy as hell :( . Does anyone know the various wheel weights of polished vs. chromed vs. regular? Also, how do I tell the difference between the types?

I have a huge FMIC, polished, but it hides pretty well behind the stock grill. I was going to put some chicken wire or something like that to hide it, but no need.

As far as the whaletail goes, I am in love with it, so I think I will get it. Thanks for the advice.

The chromed rims are MKIV TT rims. Are they really that heavy?

Word! The MKIII makes a great sleeper. I was riding in my friends car a while back while we followed 2 '03 mustangs racing each other. We kept right up behind them the entire time. At the next light, they were in the left turn lane and after we pulled up next to them they just stared at the Supra with a "WTF is that??" look:D

There's some site that has the exact weight, but I know they're about 23-24lbs each.
You are on the money:
Weight Comparison (Front/Rear)
23.6 lb / 25.4 lb ('98) - lighter w/o ctr ridges
24.75 lb / 26.55 lb ('93-'97)

I was wondering if there was a diff between chrome/polished/regular.

dude...exactly my thoughts, you could fucking chrome out the rims on it, put on a kit, nice wing, and a big fart can...... and people would just think your some pimped out probe.

but seriously, you dont need to stay completely stock, id say get nice rims for it, get nice paint, tint the windows a little to prevent thiefage, and if your still worried about thiefs, get a nice alarm system

i don't think you should get MKIV rims. we make fun of the civics with fake SI badging, how is having rims that weren't made for your car any different?
Uh because they serve a purpose? Wider tires for better traction on a stockish looking rim is WAYY different then a fake badge or sticker.

This is such a retarded comment I am almost in shock.

no, i'm just saying that for the price of mkiv rims you could go aftermarkets, and get even wider tires. i'm not a fan of putting OEM rims from the wrong car on my cars. no hate, man.
