I was also kind of hoping he would come back and tell us what happened, cause I can maybe see making those numbers a few times on a dyno (especially a hub dyno)... but I can't see it holding up to repeated real world use.
I concur, mate.

It would be nice to either see a rod/piston or a myth busted :)

I cannot speak for him, but this is out of my 98 GS300 2jzge vvti same as the IS300. Cly 1 blew a ring land on the dyno at 402whp. Stock engine with 8psi boost. This was with an AEM Infinity 506 ECU. So not junky tuning equipment. Just what the engine could handle in my case.

Well there we have it, another bit of conclusive proof that the vvti GE pistons are made out of a softer material than their non vvti brethren.

Sorry for your loss, but what is your next plan?

Well as mentioned the engine has been refreshed with forged internals and I got a built trans from Powerdynamix. Also put an OSGiken LSD in the diff. Shooting for 700-800 whp this time.

Seems like the ring lands let go before the rods so the whole ge vvti piston/rod = bad
