"He hopes NASCAR officials sign off on the body within 45 days after submission, about the same time Unger is expecting Toyota to submit its Cup Series V-8 to NASCAR for approval.

Getting an engine past the Nextel Cup inspectors, he said, shouldn't be much of a problem (Bill Elliott recently tested a Toyota engine at Lowe's Motor Speedway). A Cup engine is quite similar to the one used in the Truck Series. Both are the same displacement (358 cubic inches) and have the same compression ratio (12:1).

However, a Cup engine can produce 850 horsepower at 9,000 rpm whereas a Truck Series power plant puts out about 750 horsepower at 8,400 rpm.

Unger said the technicians at TRD's Costa Mesa shop will build some, but not all, of the engines used in the Cup series. Bill Davis Racing will build its own engines with TRD officials, Unger said, providing "parts and advice."

I was reading some NASCAR board about Toyota in the Nextal Cup series and they were bashing Toyota cause the Camry is FWD in street trim, however so is the Monte Carlo. No wonder rednecks who bought the newer style Monte Carlo's (just because Monte Carlo style bodys race in NASCAR) were having trouble doing doughnuts.....

I am looking foward to seeing a few NASCAR races next year hell mabye I'll even attend one myself :sadance:

v8 2dr Camry?

Will Toyota actually have to release a two door v8 camry to the general public? If I rememeber correctly, years ago when Ford started running the taurus they were forced to offer a two door v8 Taurus as an option to the general public for about $50k. I'm not sure if anyone every bought on though!

Dale Jarret?

As for the previous post: I guess I am the only Supra IV (and Evo IX) drivin' redneck around the forum who watches NASCAR! Dale Jarrett and for that matter Michael Waltrip (also going to drive Toyota in Nextel Cup) are not exactly top drivers right now. What Toyota needs is Kyle Bush or some other YOUNG driver to win some races. I LOVE NASCAR! Always have, always will, go to about 2-4 races a year and I think its great that Toyota is going to race. I also hope NASCAR continues to become more international. I have seen Formula 1, 24 hr Rolex, Superbike, Drift etc. You name it, I've seen it live a bunch of times, and for my money NASCAR is the most entertaining show in the world of autosports.

I've heard people say that drifting is going to be as big as NASCAR. HA! HA! HA! What a joke! Obviously the people who say this have never actually been to a NASCAR race.

If you havent seen one live and you bash it, YOU are the ignorant redneck. Thats like seeing a porno and thinking you know all about having sex. Just my humble opinion :bigthumb:

Once upon a time you had to manufacture a car before it could be entered into a stock car race.

I'm no f**king redneck. I love Nascar ...and I also love my Toyota Supra.

I believe it is TOTALLY UN AMERICAN to put TOYOTA into Nascar.

But Nascar is all about the money now , not like it use to be.

Just like every sport, all about the money.

Think of how this will affect other race series. Nascar( the onwers) are going to monopolize racing.

HA HA HA HA GOOD Luck with Walslip driving for Toyota :banhim: I say . Him and his faggy boogidie boogidie lets go racing faggot brother :bigthumb:

I will admit it is a little odd allowing Toyota into NASCAR but it will broaden the audience and make it an even larger and impressive event. As for sportsin the good old days not being about money? Please tell me what they used to be about.
