I had an idea to make installing my transmission alot easier. Since it's such a huge pain to bolt up the top bolt on the starter... I figured just welding the nuts to the starter, Then all i have to do it screw them in rather than trying to get a wrench on the back side of the nut to tighten it down. I thought maybe welding on the starter, Might ruin it.

that's nice, i do remember hearing about that. Well for my case, i'm driving an 89' and mine isn't like that... sucks ... I know the starter is alluminum and if i went to the hardware store to get a matching nut that's alluminum... then im guessing it could be welded?

How thick is the metal? Can you tap it?

Either that or just pick up a 91-92 starter.

I have a 91 starter in my 89. Everything fits as it should, only the nuts are still in the toolbox.

I would swap out the starter now, since it's likely never been done.

My Starter's Brand New. I hate that top bolt on the starter, Worst Pain in the ass ever! I'll just get some alluminum nuts at the hardware store and have them tack welded on.
