I'm trying to get my car on the road and I have recently installed hks 280's, titan cam gears and gates racing timing belt and when I started the car the belt wobbles from front to back. I went ahead and decided to install a new timing tensioner and pulley and fired up the car again but still the timing belt wobbles front front to back. Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be? Is the wobbling common or did I get a defective part?

did you remove and reinstall the timing gear on the crank snout at any time during your build? do you have a stock pulley just to swap it out with quick, just to ensure that it isnt the problem?

UPDATE: I re-installed my stock cam gears and retained the gates timing belt and she is still wobbling front to back. Any other ideas? I made a video of how the belt moves. watch the video really close to see the belt movement. thanks

i'm on my 4th attempt to fix the problem. I sent my titan cam gears to a machinist to inspect measurements and they are dead-on. I'm installing them again and would replace the gates timing belt with a brand new toyota o.e. belt.

Did you put that spacer looking deal that goes one after you put the belt on? It's to hold it in place so it don't wobble like that.

PM 1320ms he had the same problem and it ended up being a bad belt, although I dont know what brand belt he had.

are you talking about the crankpulley spacer? it was in before i put the lower cover and harmonic balancer

Yea, the manual calls the the timing belt guide, it's got a lip on it make sure you face the lip outward.

Let us know if a new belt solved the issue.

OP, did you make sure the backside of the timing crank gear still had the guide ?It's easily snapped off if you're not careful,

solved the problem. it was a new defective gates timing belt..
