I'm currently doing a swap from a GE to JDM GTE. I've just swapped the cams to USDM and took some readings. Some of the values are right on the edge of being too tight(ex #6 both sides) but in spec, and there was only one that was WTF is going on here.

I'm the type of person that does it right the first time so I don't have to go back. Should I take the tight valves and loosen them up a bit with a new shim? Is there anything to worry about with #3 exhaust being way the hell out there?

Intake
1.) 0.20
0.20 -0.23
2.) 0.20-0.23
0.23 -0.25

Exhaust

Sweet thanks guys! Anything to worry about #3 exhaust being so far out while the rest are in spec? Just strikes me as odd.

Nah nothing really to worry about as long as you know none of the valves are bent. A bent valve could pull the valve down alittle and give you a bigger gap. Bending a valve in a 2j is pretty hard to do considering these are non-interference motors. You just need a thicker shim.

What are the specs? If its within range its fine, if not then it should be adjusted.
I had this convo with an engine builder and he reminded me that Toyota is telling you what the definite safe range is so you don't need to aim to be any more exact than they are listing.

Awesome thanks guys. I'll get the one shim pulled and adjusted.

TROLL (Pasted from the TSRM):
Valve clearance (Cold):
Intake 0.15 - 0.25 mm (0.006 - 0.010 in.)
Exhaust 0.25 - 0.35 mm (0.010 - 0.014 in.)

Ok with that said I would reshim that one since it is out of spec.
You might be able to swap some shims from other locations to get everything in spec without having to buy any... you'll have to play with it to see what you come up with.
