Does anyone know the tax rate when you register a car in IL? I know there is a split between cars under $15,000 and cars over $15,000 but I don't know the specifics.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :bigthumb:

If you already own the car then you dont have to pay tax on it, you just have to register it and get paltes. Its like 90 bucks to register and get your plates. If you live in Il. and just bought the car and are transfering titles and registering, then its like anything you payed for a car over 15k is 1000 dollars in tax. Under that it is also broken down but I can rember the exact break down.

I'd be very happy if any car over $15k is only a grand in tax. I'm expecting to pay 8% on a 30 grand car I just bought which would suck big time...

Thanks for the rely yellow. +1.

Anyone else can confirm? Reason being is I'm in NY and I need to make a trip down there to register the car I just picked up.

Hey sorry for the long delay, but I pulled the form that I had when I bought my car and registered it to my name and got plates. The break down is as follows:

I cropped and enhanced the part so you can read it.
