so what do those wires do? would they effect fuel pump operation?

There is a 5 pin connector at the fuel pump bracket.
Two terminals are power and ground for the fuel pump.
Three terminals are for the gas tank sending unit.

The 1,2,3 terminals in a row on top are for the sending unit.
THe 4,5 terminals on bottom row are for the fuel pump.

#4 is blue {hot}
#5 is white/black tracer {ground}
