What gear do you roll race in?

I figured this was the best area to put this since alot of you guys do highway racing.

If you guys are doing a 60-70mph roll, what gear do you start off in in your MKIV Supra? (V160?)

reason im asking is because I start off in 4th typically. Im BPU + and was racing my friends 07 Mustang GT in Mexico ;-). I only barely beat him. his car only has Intake exhuast and one of those plug in tuners. I didnt start to pull away from him until 100mph, and I have probobly 100 whp on him :naughty:. His gearing is better for this speed though because he can drop to third and still have plenty of rpm left before he has to shift.

I know my car is mechanically sound, It was only dyno'd last month and has felt just as good as the day it left the dyno.

Wow 4th gear at 60-70? SMH. Third gear, 60-70, and buy the time you pull through third and fourth, you should see him in all of your mirrors by 120mph or so. 4th gear is far to low, and i know from trying it out more then a few times. Drop it into third, and hit it at 60, you will have plenty of gearing too, if I remember correctly, you can hit almost 90 mph in third. My car is in my garage, let me go do a burnout and see if I can hit 90 in the garage in third......

Honestly, whatever gear you need to put you near or above 4k rpm to get turbo #2 spooled from the getgo. Otherwise you won't be moving anywhere fast before the transition.

Third all the way, funny story... I raced a guy in a RS STI swap that was making 4**whp I started in fourth (to try and make it fair, well more than fair) he lit me up (which I knew would happen) then the fucker posts a video and goes around telling people he beat my supra. Needless to say I confronted him, and he tried bullshitting me saying "oh you know how people talk" whatever guy... Guess I set him up to bet some loot next time though...

You probably made him a god on the subaru forums...now every subaru owner with a flipped up baseball cap and white sunglasses wants to touch the crouch of the man who slayed the all-mighty Supra.

When I was BPU at about 20psi, I raced a newer mustang GT also (just before the new 5L) and we were dead even on two runs. We pulled over and were kinda shocked that we didn't beat the other person because he thought I was stock and I thought he was stock, but he had a damn supercharger in his car :p So to only barely pull away from a non-supercharged one in a 6spd is kinda crummy... Mine's an automatic too with the added weight of the targa top and a full stereo system if that makes you feel worse, lol. How much boost were you running? Maybe start in 3rd as has been suggested and work on your shifting.

hey sorry guys this is going to be kinda off topic but im BPU+ auto and i mainly race on a roll. do i turn overdrive off? my friend whos also BPU+ auto (same amount of power) beat me on the 1st roll. then i brake boosted the 2nd roll and won, later a few months he told me he had overdrive off. and didnt brake boost. any input? would turning O/D of damage my tranny from a roll?

OD is not meant for racing, it's a highway cruising gear, and yes you should have it off. Having it ON, on the other hand and brake boosting can damage your tranny with enough power.
