It is about time to change the transmission fluid for my 94 TT 6-spd. What is the best brand and weight to use?

Thanks,

I was always told to use factory Toyota fluid. Some people say that using other fluids the gear shifter will not center. Now using Redline in your diff, thats a different story

I only used the Toyota stuff, buy it from Curt for a good price. It is not recommended to use anything else, however some people do. I think its better to be safe than sorry though. A few bucks isn't worth skimping out on. A new tranny is expensive, and rebuilds are too. :)

You should only use Toyota V160 tranny fluid. Anything else may cause swelling of seals and tolerance issues. This is discussed thoroughly on mkiv.com in the tech section.

Thanks for posting this. I'm about to fix things up and I didn't know about this article. THe guy before me tried redline once and my shifter didn't like recentering. I replaced a few parts that would help this but didn't know about what this article explained. I'll try to replace this too if it's not expensive as hell.

'Bout 60$ for the fluid.

No no no guys! :) I ALWAYS put Toyota fluid in but the previous owner put in Redline and fucked something up in the tranny because of it. Read the article Ranger posted to see what I'm talking about. THAT is the additional cost. I've already put in $7xx in parts and fluid so far in my quest to rebuild my transmission. This is considered a minor rebuild too since everything is fine but some basic cheaper things like synchros, etc. I'm not sure how much the added cost of this part will cost (one in the article) since it's large and contains a bunch of other parts.

I used BG SynchroShift in my 93 prelude SI... it made the shifting a lot smoother.. so I decided to put it in the supra... the supra was filled with an auto tranny fluid.. i guess for energy efficency... i drained that from my 6spd tranny and pumped in bg synchroshift into it.. it runs just fine for me, shifting is a little smoother compred to before, but that could be because of the new oil, 10k miles so far now i'm running at 91k total and it runs just fine.

At what mileage intervals do you need to replace the tranny fluid? I have 41k miles on the automatic tranny, but I just bought the car so I do not know if the previous owner replaced it.

I have an auto too, and I flush the tranny fluid once a year, and only use the Toyota Type T-4 fluid I think. I think that's what it is. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I flush the Auto tranny every 15-20k miles. This topic was about the Manual tranny. To answer your question though, stick to the Toyota fluid for your auto tranny. Nothing else is recommended..

Yeah, I know it was about the manual tranny, but someone asked about the auto, so I tried to answer their question. :D

dont use redline mt90,

USE Redline d4ATF becuase it does not have the additive that will wear on the bearings. D4ATF it is what we used in the titan car when it was 6 speed, it is what we put in all our customers trannys as well.
