I only used the Toyota stuff, buy it from Curt for a good price. It is not recommended to use anything else, however some people do. I think its better to be safe than sorry though. A few bucks isn't worth skimping out on. A new tranny is expensive, and rebuilds are too.

Thanks for posting this. I'm about to fix things up and I didn't know about this article. THe guy before me tried redline once and my shifter didn't like recentering. I replaced a few parts that would help this but didn't know about what this article explained. I'll try to replace this too if it's not expensive as hell.

I flush the Auto tranny every 15-20k miles. This topic was about the Manual tranny. To answer your question though, stick to the Toyota fluid for your auto tranny. Nothing else is recommended..
