I'm guessing, but I think it may be an airbag sensor.
I don't think its an airbag sensor since the airbag sensor are yellow

What is it's function? Is it purely for the auto climate control or can it effect performance based on it's readings...?

Ambient Air Temp Sensor:)

Jeff
I thought that little dome/bubble thing on the dash detects sunlight as well to help do the auto climate.
I was wondering the same thing, I just didn't want to ask because I thought I was the only one that didn't know. Dang it will be nice to find out what this sensor does.

like jeff watson already said:
outside Air Temp Sensor. you see the value if you switch the clock to outside temp.

You can read outside temp? I don't think the US Supras can do this, or maybe mine can and I'm just :dunce:
It's the outside air temp sensor.....the one behind the dash
near the lighter is the inside sensor. They both send a signal
to the A/C amplifier.

The dome sensor on the dash top is the solar sensor...
it detects solar radiation:eek: then sends a signal to
the same amp.

Check the connections to the AC amplifier on top of the radio.

Also the connections to the switch panel itself.

Two plugs on each and if i remember correctly they are orange.

Martin
