I took the back plate off the 6sp dif that was in the car to clean it up. It was a good idea as there was a decent amount of sludge in it on the bottom...

Anyway, its time to put the dif cover back on and was wondering what to use...

Is there a gasket I can buy or should I use RTV sealant since thats what was on there originally...

You should use Toyota FIPG. I don't know what most people use as an alternative to it.

It looks and feels like regular RTV sealant you can buy anywhere...

Same color, and feel...

Hondabond and Yamabond are close seconds to the original Toyota FIPG.

Otherwise, only use McRTV in a pinch IMO

Orange FIPG! Toyota "Form In Place Gasket" maker, this stuff is sent from the heavens to seal your differential, transmission, transfer case, or whatever else you want to use it on that has gear oil in it! Affectionately pronounced "fip-ige" in our shop, it's basically "the shit" You should get some and use it on your transmission if you want to be cool like us.
