Call it now or forever hold your peace. The six speed guys are bringing it hard and the weather is perfect this time of year. Just curious to see who everyone thinks will own the 7 second club trophy first.

I never thought we'd even be havin this duscussion any time soon but here we are. Altho I cant predict the future , Im willing to bet its NOT gonnna be saad but stranger things have happened. Im hoping Ryan does it. I'd love to see Ryan and SW head to head both breakin their own personal best times.

I had to vote for darin. I am thinking he will have something new the next time out. and I allways go for the under dog.

If I was SW I would just park the car until someone got close and then take it out and run the 7.xx.

either way I think someone in Dec will run the number.

G/L to everyone.

attn. NERO

who cares if the car has a 9 inch rear end, the original quote has always been "6speed record " . so a rear end shouldnt change a thing........also i think darin will be the first to the 7's because look how far hes come by his self so far...and being this close i would think it would be in neros best interest to SUPPORT HIM with whatever he asks for and have that title as first 6speed in the 7's sponsored by titan.....:wavey: yes nero this is a hint support your worker:kiss: we have to keep these records in florida:rant2:

I disagree. It takes away from the challenge of stock parts

The whole reason I do it with the parts I do is for the challenge. I could buy custom axles, change the rear end, strip the car and make it really light, etc. I like the challenge of all of it. The Ford 9 would make it easy easier sure. So would a Glide but I like my stock 6spd tranny and stock 6spd diff and I like my car not being all stripped;) Hell it took me three years to add a second gate so I could control boost in the 330. Bam 8.37 and it's got a lot of ET Still left in her. In all these years I'm still on a single fogger too. I could make life easier and make more power if I direct ported it but I haven't done that either. There's lots to do still if I want to spend the money on it.... And that's a big IF. The bottom line for me and like I've always said, I know what I'm capable of it's just a matter of how much time/money I want to spend doing it. I'm perfectly content with how my car has run and if I never get the record back I'm cool with that. I do believe if I wanted to chase a 7 with the stock driveline parts I COULD do it....

Isnt the only requirement 6 speed? Is the official 6 speed record even set on a stock rear(not sw, but the viper guys). Was it even a stock tranny?
Although I have agree with Ryan, I wouldnt take my car to the next level IF he still drives it around, but if its just a racecar anyway who cares? Gut it and go

Ryan this guys are all up in finding the way to build a drag car to bit the record of your street car , Dont U get it. I drive a TRD LSD To go to Work everyday looks like they will be driving a 9 inch ford w a spool to go to work, Priceless... :)

I voted for Darin cause I have to :) we've all seen what he can do with so little. I mean he's never even tried the 91, im sure he can do quite a bit with it....
But I really think SW will probably get 7's first..

What is the official record?? The viper 7.98 is BS and has never been backed up and SW has not backed up the 8.04 yet either. I do beleive the SW will back it up though. Until he does though..... what is the official record that has been backed up? SW's 8.33 or has a viper gone faster and backed it up?

#36 ·
Probably SW, although I'd like to see Darin do it.

#38 ·
To me (just MY opinion) the official record is 8.04 because the pass is not obviously and painfully bogus looking like the Viper 7.98 (and it's not like these are NHRA certified records).

But I don't have a good argument against the 8.33 as that was backed up with other passes (much like the NHRA requires for records).

I still don't understand why the records are being broken with CLEAN supra's.

Buy an NA hardtop, gut it down, put a 9" rear end, and a modified V160, and beat the vipers guy's records. Instead you have a bunch of 50-60k clean low mileage TT's being demolished breaking rear ends every other day. But either way I'm excited.. it was great seeing the start of this competition this year start at SILV.

I know there aren't any actual rules written for this unofficial "6 speed record". However, I always figured as long as you have a supra with a 2JZ, clutch shifted stock transmission and still retain IRS, you are eligible for the record. If I am going to be discounted because of a custom differential or axles, then I'm not sure I want to keep trying. Breaking axles every other pass gets old and so does breaking lsds. Just because we can make a few passes without breaking on the stock parts doesn't impress me. All that means is that probably 6 times out of 10 if I lined up with someone I will break something and lose the race. I want these cars to not just be fast, but consistently fast.

If we are going to start making rules, then we need to go ahead and make them now and make sure everyone agrees on them. I also think one of the first rules should be as it is in every form of official drag racing, you should have to back up your record pass within 1% of the et in order to officially obtain the record.

I completely agree with everything that you stated.

If you are going to use a different driveshaft or TRD diff, then why not axles or a completely different diff? It does not make the car any faster, just more reliable!!

Breaking axles and TRD diffs every time or every other time out sucks!! And gets expensive!

Darin didn't you just get done telling me you're done and out of budget:) Get back to the track! I know you don't like being #3:)

The reason we didn't put the 9" in a few years ago. But, after three sets of stripped ring and pinions we are putting the 9" in. It's all a part of getting faster and finding the weak links. After all, all the faster autos are using Domestic transmissions.

A 9" will NOT make you faster, I agree with Larry. However given the ratios available you can make the car work better overall with gearing. I believe that's a gigantic problem with our cars.......our gearing is NOT optimal especially given that we can't go 1:1 in 4th gear going down the track.

The key to the record is IRS, if that's retained, the diff isn't going to be a big deal, it's all about dialing in the car with the right parts. After all it's a 6 speed record so who cares what else is used throughtout the car at this point. As long as it's not a 4 link.........

It's also important that at this point everyone focuses on safety.......having a TRD diff break going into 4th would be very dangerous and if a different/stronger diff helps with safety, I'm all for it.

Everyone with a car speed going over 160 needs to ask Santa for a HANS device. So far it's only me, Ian, SW, and Kean that I know of wearing them..........

We have no plans of putting the 9" in the 6 spd. The only thing we might consider is the mile. The gearing would be better. I really don't think the gearing would help the 1/4 mile, SW's car goes across the traps at 9K.

Do you not think that a slightly taller rear end ratio (something around a 2.75 gear) could help make first gear more useable and help the car 60 foot even better?
