can someone explain what the word "offset" means...Also, I have 235 45 17's up front and would like a little more grip in the back...Would I have to alter anything to fit 265 40 17's....I"m sure this is a dumb question. Would it be worth going to 275's

275s would be fine even lowered. No problem there if using the stock wheels.

I've got 255/40/zr17's up front and 275/40/r17 drag radials on the back. My car is dropped with the stock wheels. It has never rubbed in the 45,000 miles I've had this setup.

For awhile I had 285's on the back that never rubbed, but that's starting to push it with a 9.5 inch wheel.

They won't rub at all, you have plenty of clearance, I currently run that size in the rear.

I am running 285/40-17s in the back with no rubbing... my car is lowered also. You won't have any problems. These are on the stock wheels BTW.
